Job summary

Bread & Chocolate is seeking a part-time Kitchen Assistant to support the Kitchen Manager and Lead Kitchen Assistant. The role involves preparing dishes, cooking, delivering meals, washing dishes, and cleaning kitchen equipment. This is a fast-paced position where quality matters and teamwork is essential.

Work hours range from 5–15 hours per week, with day, evening, and weekend shifts, including holidays. Pay is set according to experience and market rates.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist the Kitchen Manager and Lead Kitchen Assistant.
• Cleanup throughout the day and at end of day on appliances, surfaces, floors and walls.
• Wash dishes and utensils and store properly.
• Ensure all food prep areas are clean and hygienic.
• Wash, peel, chop, cut and cook to help prepare meals.
• Delivery of some catering orders.
• Delivery of food donations.
• Follow food safety guidelines and apply procedures.
• Occasional errands and adherence to dress code.

The idea of Bread & Chocolate came from our founder’s kitchen. We take great pride in the foods we prepare and are careful to invite people to join our staff that understand this and can uphold our standards. The Kitchen Assistant position is important to our kitchen. This position supports the Kitchen Manager and the Lead Kitchen Assistant roles. This position includes, but is not limited to, assisting in the preparing of dishes, cooking, delivering meals, washing dishes, and maintaining the kitchen and equipment. This is a fast-paced position where quality is important.

This is a part-time position with a lot of variation in schedule. Work hours can vary between 5-15 hrs a week, including day, evening, and weekend hours, as well as occasional holidays. The schedule is communicated 2 weeks in advance. Rate of pay is determined based on experience, taking into account market rates.

Responsibility

• Assist the Kitchen Manager and Lead Kitchen Assistant
• Cleanup throughout the day and at the end of each day, including kitchen appliances, work surfaces, floors, and walls
• Wash dishes and utensils and make sure they are stored in an organized way in the designated areas
• Ensure that all food preparation areas are clean and hygienic
• Wash, peel, chop, cut and cook and help to prepare meals
• Delivery of some catering orders
• Delivery of food donations
• Have a clear understanding of food safety guidelines and protocols and apply all principles carefully to your work
• Occasional small errands, as necessary
• Attend to our dress code carefully
