Job Description

We are seeking a proactive, warm‑hearted hostess/host to create a memorable first impression for guests at the Renaissance Newport Beach. Responsibilities include greeting guests, managing seating charts, coordinating with servers and management, handling reservations, and ensuring a clean and welcoming dining environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide a smile and friendly greeting, use guests' names, confirm party size, and assist with seating preferences.
• Ensure all hostess/host staff provide warm welcomes and fond farewells to each guest.
• Run the floor plan, maintain accurate seating chart and cover tally, direct other host staff during service periods.
• Monitor supply of restaurant menus and wine lists for all meal periods.
• Present menus to guests and inform servers of guests at the table.
• Hold knowledge of floor plan, server station assignments, and table numbers.
• Inspect menus for cleanliness and replace when necessary.
• Check dining room and floors for cleanliness, taking action where needed.
• Make reservations accurately and courteously.
• Coordinate daily communication and manage comp payments, tackle slips, and third‑party payments.
• Actively listen and respond positively, resolve guest issues with compassion and build trust.
• Answer phones with knowledge of resort and restaurant operations, directing guests as appropriate.
• Acknowledge and thank exiting guests, encouraging return visits and reporting issues to management.
• Inspect for cleanliness at closing and prepare stations for next day.
• Be familiar with emergency safety procedures.
• Understand menus and ingredient details.
• Maintain a positive work atmosphere, collaborating with guests, vendors, co‑workers, and management.
• Maintain and update the communication book with group resume, holiday menus, and resort activities.
• Perform additional duties as requested by the Restaurant Manager or Assistant Manager.

Physical Requirements

• Exposure to sunlight required when working the pool outlet.
• Ongoing overtime may be required during certain shifts.
• Prolonged standing and walking periods.
• Ability to lift, balance, and carry trays of food weighing up to 25 pounds.

Qualifications

• At least 6 months of hostess or restaurant experience.
• Previous fine dining experience and/or knowledge of wines and spirits is a plus.
• Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Grooming: All employees must maintain a neat, clean, and well‑groomed appearance (specific standards reviewed upon hire).
