Job summary

Lakes District Maintenance, part of the Volker Stevin family, is seeking an Auxiliary Highway Maintenance Worker & Operator for Dease Lake. This full-time seasonal posting involves safe operation of heavy trucks and equipment to maintain highways in a remote BC setting.

You will contribute to safety, perform road maintenance duties, and document activities while adhering to company standards. BC Class 3 with air brake endorsement and 2+ years' highway experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Valid BC Class 3 with air brake endorsement or higher with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
• 2+ years’ experience in highway maintenance is preferred
• Experience operating graders is considered an asset
• Good working knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations
• Good knowledge of safety rules and regulations as they pertain to the driving and operation of vehicles, equipment, and machinery
• Mechanical and operational aptitude
• Physically fit, mentally alert with the ability to perform manual tasks outdoors in varying weather conditions

Responsibilities

• Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive environment
• Operate equipment and perform manual labour duties related to: road surface maintenance, such as snow and ice control, roadside maintenance, traffic control maintenance, emergency/incident response, annual maintenance works
• Inspect, maintain, and operate equipment to company standards and promptly report all potential problems and defects
• Complete all required documentation such as fuel logs, schedule forms, road reports, highway maintenance records, equipment repair requests, safety and environmental documentation as related to specific jobs
• Understand and apply company performance standards for all highway maintenance activities
