Job summary

County of Roanoke Virginia is seeking an instructor to lead seasonal or occasional recreation programs on a contractual or hourly basis, ensuring a safe, engaging environment that meets department standards. Hours are 1–3 per week.

You will teach group classes, keep participants engaged, and model a welcoming atmosphere for members and staff. Preferred credentials include CPR, First Aid, AED and a Virginia driver's license; experience in teaching groups and staying current with recreation trends

Qualifications

• Education or training in the assigned area of programming and instruction.
• Some experience in teaching/instructing groups.
• Three or more years of experience teaching/instructing classes (preferred).
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certification preferred.
• Valid Virginia driver's license with good driving record preferred.

Responsibilities

• Teach group classes for designated subject or program.
• Ensure participants are engaged and the class abides by established standards.
• Motivate all participants to accomplish their goals and keep attending.
• Interact with members, guests, and center staff to model a welcoming atmosphere.
• Stay current on recreation trends and their influence on programming.
• Start and end classes on time and return equipment to proper location.
• Recommend new or replacement equipment for areas.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors, customers and the public.
• Foster a team environment through daily work habits and a positive attitude.
• Actively participate in meetings to stay informed of facility issues.
