Job summary

Melwood is seeking a Seasonal Groundsworker to perform grounds tasks under the Grounds Foreman, following landscape contract specifications. The workday runs 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, at locations in the Lanham area.

Duties include mowing, trimming, pruning, leaf cleanup, snow removal, planting, and basic irrigation checks; the role may involve operating power equipment and other yard duties as needed.

Responsibilities

• Cuts lawns, using hand mower or power mower.
• Trims and edges around walks, flower beds and walls, using clippers and edging tools.
• Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth, using shears.
• Rakes leaves and cleans or sweeps up litter using spiked stick or broom.
• Shovels snow from walks and driveways.
• Spreads salt on public passage ways.
• Plants grass, flowers, trees and shrubs.
• Waters lawn and shrubs during dry periods, using hose or by activating fixed or portable sprinkler system.
• Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts, using shovel and rake.
• May operate walking type power mowers, snow blowers, roto tillers or riding mowers.
• May operate chain saws, hedge trimmers and other hand held power operated tools to prune, cultivate, shovel, trim and dig.
• May use tractor equipped with attachments, such as mowers, lime or fertilizer spreaders and lawn roller.
• May perform a variety of laboring duties when yard work is completed.
• Other duties as assigned.

INTRODUCTION

Under the supervision of the Grounds Foreman, performs those grounds tasks necessary to meet Landscape contract specifications.

The hours are 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday, paid at $20.82 per hour.
