Seasonal Grain Elevator Operator

Responsibilities

• Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre‑shift meetings.
• Perform all duties within compliance of OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO where applicable), including wearing appropriate PPE for the task being performed.
• Transfer, load, and move grain to the appropriate location.
• Maintain grain quality while being stored or transferred.
• Weigh trucks and grade grain (where applicable).
• Complete documentation timely, accurately, and legibly.
• General clean‑up including sweeping, shoveling, washing, painting, and other housekeeping responsibilities.
• Operate, run, monitor, and shut down dryer as required (where applicable).
• Perform preventative maintenance and/or repairs (where applicable).
• Operate a variety of heavy equipment, where applicable.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience Required: None.
• Preferred – 1 year’s experience working in an industrial environment with a dependable work record.
• Basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
• Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to complete documentation requirements.
• Ability to follow directions and use logical thought processes to interpret oral and written instructions and troubleshoot problems.
• Ability to work well both independently and within a team environment.
• Ability to use tools appropriate for assigned tasks.

Physical Demands & Requirements

• Balance constantly/continuously.
• Bend, stoop, twist, crouch, crawl, kneel, and squat frequently.
• Climb stairs and ladders to significant heights frequently.
• Concentrate on tasks without becoming distracted constantly/continuously.
• Distinguish grain grades, color, odor and damage characteristics (at some facilities).
• Use nose to distinguish odor differences or recognize particular odors with a degree of accuracy.
• Enter information into a computer (observations, other computers).
• Grasp and reach frequently.
• Lift, push, or pull 50 lbs. occasionally, and continuously depending on daily needs of location.
• Utilize all applicable PPE when required.
• Meet requirements of PFT and fit testing when applicable.
• Pass all required testing under FRA and DOT for this position when applicable.
• Perform work in confined spaces.
• Walk safely on barge surface(s) and around deep/swift water (where applicable, required at Convent, LA location).
• Stand and walk constantly/continuously.
• Communicate verbally, in person, and over two‑way radio (including understanding emergency alarms).
• Communicate written instructions.
• Walk on top of railcars, open gates, operate vibrators, etc. (where applicable).
• Work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and/or alternate shifts as needed.
• Work in an environment with high dust levels around grain and other bulk products (where applicable).
• Work outside in extreme weather conditions.
• Acutely aware of surroundings with ability to quickly adjust to a signal or change in environment.
• Use near, far, and peripheral vision and depth perception for tasks being performed; may need to identify grain problems.
• Open silo bin doors and rail car hoppers (Convent, LA location only).

Environmental Conditions

The work environment requires both inside and outside work in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment. Travel may be required at some facilities (5%-20%) including off‑site training and/or work at alternate locations.

Pay Range

$17.00 - $17.00 per hour. Actual pay may vary depending on location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
