Qualifications

Position Overview

Seasonal general laborer position at a facility that loads and unloads barges and trucks with overtime opportunity.

Responsibilities
  • Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre‑shift meetings.
  • Perform duties in compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations, wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Read drafts, open/close lids, tie off barges.
  • Load barges to meet draft and quality requirements.
  • Oversee deckhand(s) as required.
  • Transfer, load, and move grain to appropriate location.
  • Maintain grain quality while stored or transferred.
  • Complete documentation timely, accurately and legibly.
  • Clean and maintain barges, sweep, shovel, wash, paint and perform general housekeeping.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs as applicable.
  • Unload barges, move product to storage, load trucks using heavy equipment, load rail, operate dryer, operate other heavy equipment as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • No experience required; preferred one year of experience in an industrial environment with a reliable work record.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, and ability to interact with all levels of people.
  • Ability to complete documentation requirements.
  • Ability to follow directions and interpret oral and written instructions, troubleshoot problems.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Ability to use appropriate tools for assigned tasks.
  • Ability to remain focused while providing exceptional customer service.
Physical Demands & Requirements

Ability to balance, bend, stoop, twist, crouch, crawl, kneel and squat, climb stairs and ladders, concentrate on tasks continuously, distinguish grain characteristics, lift/push/pull 50 lbs occasionally to continuously, perform PFT and fit testing, pass FRA and DOT testing, work in confined spaces, walk on barge surface, operate vibrators, work rotating 12‑hour shifts (including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays), work outside in extremes, travel 5‑20%.

Environmental Conditions

Work inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, dry/arid conditions, high dust levels, personal protective equipment required, travel may be required.

Compensation

Base pay $16.00 - $26.00 per hour.
