Job summary

The Nature Conservancy in Morehead, KY is seeking an Engine Boss (ENGB) to lead a Type VI engine crew in wildland fire activities. You will oversee daily crew operations, manage time reporting, logistics, and safety, and work with partners to implement prescribed burns.

The role requires FFT1 qualification, multiple seasons of crew leadership, and the ability to perform heavy physical work in challenging conditions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and 1-year training in fire operations, science-related field or similar field or related experience in land management.
• Qualified Fire Fighter Type 1 (FFT1) and successful completion of FFT1 task book.
• Two or more seasons as a Senior Burn Crew Member or similar agency qualification.
• Must achieve physical fitness standards as set by the local Fire Manager and the Conservancy Fire Manual.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the engine crew daily and manage administrative tasks such as time reporting, accomplishment tracking, logistics planning, purchases and safety of the crew.
• Maintain and operate wildland fire equipment and ensure readiness of the Type VI engine and crew.
• Plan and coordinate burn operations, support prescribed fire activities and collaborate with partners.
• Support training and professional development to grow fire certification credentials.
