Job summary

The Nature Conservancy is seeking a Burn Crew Manager to lead a 2–7 person squad in wildland fire activities in Tennessee. This hourly seasonal position runs Feb 8–Apr 16 full-time, with housing provided, and part-time/remote options beginning Dec 7.

Applicants should have FFT1/Type 1 qualification, strong leadership, and stamina for field work. Responsibilities include fire-line prep, equipment maintenance, and post-burn monitoring, plus administrative tasks like time reporting and logistics

Qualifications

• High school diploma and 1-year training in fire operations or related field.
• Qualified Fire Fighter Type 1 (Squad Boss) and FFT1 task book completion.
• Two or more seasons as a Senior Burn Crew Member or similar qualification.
• Must meet fitness standards and maintain Conservancy fire manuals.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily squad operations and administer time reporting and accomplishment tracking.
• Coordinate logistics, procure supplies, and ensure squad safety.
• Maintain and operate wildland fire equipment and support burn activities.
• Lead burn crew in fire-line preparation and post-burn monitoring.
