The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) protects public health and the environment by supplying clean drinking water, collecting and treating wastewater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP delivers more than 1.1 billion gallons per day of the highest quality drinking water to 8.5 million NYC residents and over 1 million people in Upstate New York. It has a wastewater conveyance and treatment system capable of processing over 1.3 billion gallons of wastewater per day to protect the environment and waterways.
The Bureau of Environmental Planning and Analysis (BEPA) is responsible for designing, constructing, and maintaining Green Infrastructure in NYC. To date, DEP has constructed over 11,000 assets in Queens, Brooklyn, and Bronx, including rain gardens, infiltration basins, porous panels, and medians, primarily located within the public right of way.

DEP partners with various City agencies to construct green infrastructure rain gardens for stormwater capture and water quality improvement. These rain gardens require specialized maintenance, including landscaping, sediment removal, and minor repairs.
As City Park Workers, candidates will assist with general maintenance tasks such as edging, seeding, snow removal, cultivating, fertilizing, trimming, sweeping, sediment removal, litter raking, facility cleaning, minor repairs (plumbing, masonry, carpentry, metal work, vehicle and equipment repair), vehicle operation, safety checks, and physical activities like moving furniture and climbing.
Environmental conditions include extended walking, working in rain gardens, and extreme temperatures.
