Job summary

The Burn Crew Manager position within The Nature Conservancy manages a squad (2-7 members) of wildland fire personnel, reporting to a Burn Boss. The role includes preparing fire lines, maintaining equipment, and post-burn monitoring, with flexibility to perform other preserve management duties when not engaging in prescribed burns.

It requires staying current with burn techniques, building fire community relationships, and meeting physical demands at remote, challenging sites.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and 1-year training in fire operations, science-related field or land management.
• Qualified Fire Fighter Type 1 (Squad Boss) and FFT1 task book.
• Two or more seasons as a Senior Burn Crew Member.
• Must achieve physical fitness standards as set by the local Fire Manager and the TNC Fire Manual.
• Experience operating and maintaining various types of equipment.
• Experience supervising staff or volunteers is required.
• May be required to obtain related licenses such as CPR and herbicide application.
