Position Overview: As a Structural Flux core Seam Welder, you will be responsible for welding various metals on ships or in shops, supporting mechanical repairs, and leading assigned helpers.

Seam Welder Job Description

• Seam welders use a wide range of welding filler metals and welding processes to perform structural welds in all phases of ship construction.
• Demonstrate Flux core (FCAW) welding process and and ability to pass hands-on test including 2G (horizontal), 3G (vertical), and 4G (overhead) using .045 wire on 3/8 inch plate with V Groove and steel backing strip
• Demonstrate the ability to weld in 1G, 2G, and 3G positions using flux core welding process at the intersection of 4 steel plates to simulate welding on the intersection of hull plating on a ship
• All seam welding will be performed with .052 dual shield flux core.
• All root passes are done with ceramic baking tape All seam test plates will be inspected visually and then sent out for x-ray
• Perform these functions in environments of extreme heights, confined spaces, and various weather conditions within the shipyard environment.
• Perform troubleshooting of minor welding equipment problems

Key Responsibilities:

• Pass all Structural Weld Test and Seam Weld testing requirements
• Perform welding for ship repair and modernization projects on marine vessels, including military and commercial ships.
• Provide guidance to assigned helpers during welding tasks.
• Write Condition Reports, including detailed findings and recommended corrective actions.
• Interpret drawings, specifications, and Navy/MSC/ABS standards.
• Safely operate and maintain welding equipment, portable power tools, and hand tools.
• Ensure compliance with all OSHA standards and wear proper PPE, including hard hats, respirators, safety harnesses, and flotation gear as required.

• 3-5+ years of experience as a Structural Welder with flux core dual shield and seam welding experience
