Shepherd is launching a Subcontractor Default Insurance (SDI) product and seeks an experienced SDI Underwriting Lead to design the underwriting strategy, establish guidelines, and drive growth with broker networks.

You will own the SDI book, develop a high-performing team, and collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data, and Risk across multiple major markets in the US, including NYC, SF, Chicago, Dallas–Fort Worth and LA.

Qualificações

• 8+ years of underwriting SDI experience.
• Deep broker relationships at regional and national levels.
• Proven track record building and growing an SDI portfolio.
• Strong financial analysis of contractor financials, WIP and backlog.
• Ability to evaluate contractor prequalification and default management practices.
• Leadership experience directing underwriters and audits.

Responsabilidades

• Define and build Shepherd’s SDI strategy, including target contractor profiles, sectors, program sizes, limits and retention targets.
• Establish underwriting guidelines, authority framework, referral rules, and rating approach for the product.
• Collaborate with capacity partners to secure and structure the paper behind the program.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, and Data to design the submission-to-bind workflow and tools.
• Underwrite new and renewal SDI programmes within your authority, including financial review and audits.
• Monitor in-force programmes for changes in contractor financial health, backlog, and enrollment; take action when risk changes.
• Own premium, profit, loss ratio, and retention results for the book.
• Leverage broker relationships to drive submission flow and market Shepherd's SDI product.
• Hire, coach, and grow a team of SDI underwriters as the book scales.
• Track construction market trends to stay profitable and competitive.
• Collaborate with Risk Engineering, Actuarial, Corporate Underwriting, Claims, Customer Experience and Finance to ensure proper underwriting, servicing, and reporting.
