Job summary

Sony Interactive Entertainment in San Mateo, CA is seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test on a contract basis to design, develop, and execute comprehensive test strategies across UI, API, and backend services, ensuring high‑quality feature delivery for millions of users.

You will build robust automation frameworks, collaborate with engineers and product teams, drive shift‑left quality, and contribute to CI/CD pipelines while maintaining scalable, reliable test infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of software testing experience, including design and execution of test plans and test cases.
• 3+ years hands-on experience building and maintaining automated tests for web, mobile, APIs, and/or backend services.
• Strong experience testing REST APIs and service-oriented architectures, including API validation, integration testing, and contract testing.
• Experience with contract testing frameworks such as Pact or similar consumer-driven contract testing solutions.
• Familiarity with gRPC services, Protocol Buffers, and service-to-service testing methodologies.
• Experience with test automation frameworks such as Selenium and/or Appium.
• Strong experience with API testing tools and frameworks (Postman, REST Assured, GraphQL, gRPC).
• Familiarity with Git, Jenkins, Docker; understanding of SDLC, CI/CD practices and test methodologies.
• Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment with minimal supervision.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test strategies, test plans, and test cases across UI, API, and backend systems.
• Collaborate with software engineers, product managers, and cross-functional teams to define test coverage and quality goals early in development.
• Build, maintain, and scale robust automation frameworks for UI, API, service-level, and end-to-end testing, including device and performance testing.
• Design and build testing infrastructure to enable automated service validation and shift quality efforts beyond UI testing.
• Continuously improve quality engineering practices by introducing new standards, tools, and processes across teams.
• Develop reusable test utilities, APIs, and libraries to improve efficiency and consistency in automation.
• Maintain and enhance existing automation frameworks (Python, Selenium, etc.) for scalability and reliability.
• Partner with infrastructure teams to design, implement, and optimize CI/CD pipelines and quality gates.
• Analyze test results, identify root causes of defects, and drive timely resolution with development teams.
• Support release readiness activities by validating features and providing actionable quality recommendations.
• Advocate for shift-left testing and embedding quality practices throughout the lifecycle.
