Job summary

Job description

The King County Sheriff’s Office is seeking an experienced professional to support our law enforcement operations by providing HR generalist services to our employee population. This position will encompass a wide variety of Human Resource functions, and will work closely with the entire employment cycle, including hiring and onboarding efforts, conducting new employee orientations, providing direction on pay changes and processing separations department-wide. In addition, this position advises management on a variety of HR functions including employee data reports, filling vacancies, and interpretation and application of union contract language. They will work as part of the HR team and closely with the Payroll team. As part of the collaborative HR team, this position may backfill other Analysts’ body of work due to absences.

This is a one year special duty or term-limited temporary opportunity with an anticipated end of service date September 30, 2027. About KCSO HR Team: KCSO HR works within the Support Services division with 10 employees that support the agency’s 1,200 employees and administering 11 Union contracts.

WORK SCHEDULE:

This hybrid position follows a Monday-Friday schedule, requires working 8-hour days and will work onsite a minimum of three (3) days per week at the Black River building, located at 900 Oakesdale Avenue SW, Renton.

  • Provide a wide variety of information, advice and consultation to employees, management and the public concerning human resource programs policies and procedures, and provide technical analysis, consultation and/or assistance. Interpret and apply union contract language, local, federal and state law and regulations. Research and respond to human resources and general inquiries; inclusive of human resources information systems, specific agency databases.
  • Work collaboratively with leadership, hiring managers and other human resources staff on a variety of HR functions and topics.
  • Organize and maintain records as well as create files in LaserFiche; maintain and update HR databases, tools, and other electronic systems.
  • Manage Term-Limited and Special Duty Assignment recruitments, to include the selection process, job postings, candidate screening, coordinating interviews and working with the hiring unit.
  • Manage onboarding process for non-commissioned employees including new hire paperwork, new employee orientations, salary negotiations and coordinating with the hiring unit.
  • Process position and pay updates in the County’s PeopleSoft employee system and manage employee information in other department-specific databases.
  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of statistical reports, graphs, charts and other ad hoc reports.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and secure sensitive files and information.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
  • Demonstrated skill in human resources principles and practices with the ability to apply knowledge to Sheriff’s Office Human Resources operations.
  • Skill in decision-making; determining need to elevate matters or consult others.
  • Strong strategic problem-solving ability, customer service, organizational, analytical, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience researching, analyzing and interpreting laws, policies, processes and procedures; developing effective recommendations.
  • Demonstrated skill at working collaboratively, creating relationships, building trust and rapport with a diverse group of people and professionals of different levels of management and staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and politically savvy; be comfortable providing advice and consultation to senior leaders within the Sheriff’s Office.
  • Ability to stay organized, prioritize and handle multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
  • Experience working with and maintaining confidential records and/or archives.
  • High level of computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, as well as Adobe products.
  • Skilled in project research including but not limited to web research, data collection, and spreadsheet management.
The most competitive candidates will have previous experience:
  • Providing HR Generalist services.
  • Experience working within the Onboarding and Insight modules of NEOGOV.
  • Experience with position management in PeopleSoft.
  • Administering programs and policies as part of the employment experience within King County.

  • Must pass a thorough background investigation, including a polygraph
