The Scrum Master is a servant leader and Agile coach responsible for helping delivery teams provide the highest possible business value to their customers effectively and efficiently. This position coaches teams and leadership on Scrum principles, facilitates Agile ceremonies, and removes impediments that may prevent teams from achieving their Sprint goals.
The Scrum Master supports healthcare data and integration initiatives by coordinating cross-functional teams across business, engineering, architecture, quality assurance, and external vendor partners. This role is essential in developing self-organizing, cross-functional, and accountable teams while promoting continuous improvement throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Agile training, coaching, and guidance to Scrum teams and leadership to strengthen the adoption of Scrum principles, processes, values, and behaviors.
- Coach teams toward becoming self-organizing, cross-functional, collaborative, and accountable for their commitments and outcomes.
- Schedule and facilitate Scrum ceremonies, including Sprint Planning, Daily Scrums, Sprint Reviews, Sprint Retrospectives, and backlog refinement sessions.
- Help teams establish realistic Sprint goals based on business priorities, available capacity, dependencies, and technical requirements.
- Identify, track, communicate, and help resolve impediments, risks, issues, and dependencies affecting team delivery.
- Escalate issues outside the team’s control and coordinate with leadership and stakeholders to achieve timely resolution.
- Protect teams from noncritical, unplanned work that could interfere with their ability to complete committed Sprint goals.
- Coordinate Agile delivery activities across business, engineering, architecture, quality assurance, healthcare data, integration, and vendor teams.
- Support backlog management, release planning, dependency tracking, stakeholder coordination, and risk mitigation activities.
- Use appropriate Agile tools, metrics, and techniques to monitor team progress, delivery performance, Sprint commitments, and continuous improvement.
- Facilitate team and leadership retrospectives and ensure improvement opportunities are prioritized, assigned, and implemented.
- Promote transparency, collaboration, constructive feedback, and effective communication among team members and stakeholders.
- Help individuals outside the Scrum teams understand which interactions support team delivery and which may create disruptions.
- Coach teams through conflict, organizational change, delivery challenges, and evolving business priorities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Management, or a related field required.
- Five to seven years of professional information systems or information technology experience required.
- Three to five years of direct Scrum Master experience required.
- Three to five years of experience working in an Agile delivery environment required.
- Experience supporting teams responsible for COBOL and mainframe development required.
- Experience facilitating Scrum ceremonies and coaching cross-functional Agile delivery teams required.
- Experience with backlog management, dependency tracking, risk mitigation, release planning, and impediment removal required.
- Experience coordinating delivery activities across business, engineering, architecture, quality assurance, and vendor teams required.
Special Requirements
- Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master I (PSM I) certification preferred.
- Must be able to meet all organizational background screening and employment requirements.
- Must be able to support meetings and delivery activities involving multiple business, technical, and vendor teams.
- Must maintain any required confidentiality, information security, and healthcare data privacy standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of Agile principles, values, practices, and team structures.
- Strong understanding of the software development life cycle and Agile methodologies, including Scrum, Kanban, Lean, and Extreme Programming.
- Knowledge of COBOL and mainframe development environments sufficient to support Agile delivery teams and facilitate technical discussions.
- Strong Agile coaching, training, facilitation, mentoring, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to facilitate productive meetings involving technical teams, business stakeholders, leadership, and vendor partners.
- Strong understanding of Sprint planning, backlog management, release planning, capacity planning, dependency management, and Agile estimation.

Additional Desired Characteristics
- Three to five years of healthcare industry experience preferred.
- Experience supporting healthcare data, systems integration, or interoperability initiatives preferred.
- Certified ScrumMaster, Professional Scrum Master I, or another recognized Agile certification preferred.
- Experience working in complex enterprise environments with multiple technical teams, dependencies, and vendor relationships preferred.
