Pay or shift range: $35 USD to $40 USD. The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related reasons.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Preoperative responsibilities:
  • Checks preference sheet for procedure and gathers supplies.
  • Open sterile supplies.
  • Scrubs, gowns and gloves, sets up sterile field.
  • Examines instrumentation for functionality and cleanliness.
  • Performs count with circulator.
• Completes setting up sterile field.
• Assists surgeon and assistants with gowning and gloving.
• Assists with draping the patient and preparing items needed for procedure (suctions, cautery, etc.).
• Participates in the time out.
• Procedure responsibilities:
  • Maintains an organized sterile field.
  • Anticipates the surgeons' needs for equipment/instruments.
  • Monitoring of sponges, sharps and instruments.
  • Verifies specimen with surgeon prior to passing to circulator.
• Counts with circulator at proper intervals-when closure of peritoneum is initiated.
• Prepares closing suture and dressing.
• Begins organizing dirty instruments.
• Assists with wound closure if necessary.
• Assists with application of wound dressing.
• Prepares instruments for terminal cleaning, discards disposable items, disposed of sharps properly.
• To apply ethical principles in caring for the patient and serving the family.
• To carry out duties and responsibilities per legal requirement under their Scope of Practice.
• Actively lead a culture of safe care per the Vision and Values of Community Memorial Hospital.
• All other duties and responsibilities as designated by the Director Surgical Services.

Job Requirements

• Certification as Surgical Scrub Tech or LPN or is grandfather in the NYS requirement.
• Certification in BLS.
• Must complete 15 hours of continuing education annually.
