Job summary

Thompson Health in Canandaigua, NY seeks an experienced Surgical Technologist to support the Surgeon and First Assistant in the sterile field. You will maintain sterile technique, ensure instruments are ready, and participate in perioperative care under RN supervision.

Requirements include NYS-credentialed National Surgical Technology certification, BLS, and prior scrub tech experience. This per diem role requires weekend and holiday shifts with on-call availability to meet unit needs.

Qualifications

• BLS Certification required.
• Previous experience as a surgical scrub tech strongly preferred.
• National Surgical Technology certification or NYS credentialed per 1/21/15 DOH regulation (2824) is required.

Responsibilities

• Directs and assists Surgeon and First Assistant within the sterile operative field.
• Maintains sterile environment and ensures necessary surgical instruments are readily available.
• Guard confidentiality of patient, staff, and health system information.
• Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with interdisciplinary team.
• On weekends, participates in quality assurance, prep, and stocking if surgeries are not in progress.

Job description

Schedule/Per diem requirements: 64 hours per 8-week time block, rotating between days, and nights, including weekend/holiday requirement. Shifts are typically, 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am.

Pay Range: $26.75 - $34.00, based on experience.

Job Objectives

• To directℝassist, within the sterile operative field, the Surgeon& First Assistant during surgery by assuring that a sterile environment is maintained& all necessary surgical instruments/supplies are readily available to the surgeons.
• Actively guards the confidentiality of sensitive information including but not limited to the patients, staff, and the health system.
• The ability to develop & maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the interdisciplinary team.
• On the weekend shift there will also be quality assurance work, prepping and stocking if surgeries are not taking place.
• Adheres and contributes to the patient treatment plan under the direction of the RN, collecting data for the RN to interpret.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient.
• Lives the CARES values.

Key Responsibilities

• Assures a safe and efficient environment is provided for the surgical patient by preparing for each assigned case.
• Assures overall efficiency of department by effectively clearing Operating Room following the case.
• Assures an optimal perioperative environment to meet the needs of the patient.
• Provides appropriate and quality care based on the results of current nursing research and quality improvement monitoring results.
• Demonstrates the ability to work independently and exhibits flexibility in decision making and prioritizing
  assignments.

Requirements:

• National Surgical Technology certification or credentialed/grandfathered by NYS per 1/21/15 DOH regulation (2824)
• BLS Certification required.
• Previous experience as a surgical scrub tech strongly preferred.
• On-call requirements required based on unit needs.
