The Surgical Technologist at Rochester Regional Health, Rochester, NY, plays a vital role as a scrub technologist in the operating room. You will prepare, organize, and manage instruments, supplies, and equipment to ensure sterile, safe procedures while maintaining the integrity of the sterile field.

Responsibilities include setting up sterile fields, assisting surgeons, and supporting ongoing staff education to meet patient safety and unit objectives.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited Surgical Technology program and obtain certification through a nationally accredited credentialing organization within 12 months of graduation.
• Graduate from an accredited school of practical nursing.
• Qualify under the "+Grandfathering Clause" by providing proof of at least one year of employment as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility between December 31, 2010, and December 31, 2014.
• Qualify under the "+Hard-to-Fill Clause" by graduating from an accredited program and obtain certification through a nationally accredited credentialing organization within 24 months of hire.

Responsabilités

• Maintain a minimum of 15 Continuing Medical Education hours annually.
• Prepare and check instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures.
• Set up and maintain a sterile field, following strict aseptic techniques.
• Assist with patient draping and ensure the surgical team is properly attired.
• Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon during procedures.
• Perform accurate sponge and sharp counts with the circulating nurse.
• Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization.
• Support specialty surgical services and stock OR rooms as needed.
• Prepare sterile dressings and assist with post-operative care.
• Help orient new staff and contribute to unit goals and objectives.
• May handle medications, sharps, and syringes on the sterile field.

Formation

CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited Surgical Technology program; certification within 12 months

Graduated from accredited school of practical nursing

Grandfathering Clause: 1 year as surgical technologist (2010-2014)

Hard-to-Fill Clause: certification within 24 months of hire
