Job summary

American Bible Society is seeking an Editorial Specialist, Scripture Content to enhance publication quality and support the Content Development team in publishing across web, LMS, apps, and print.

The role emphasizes copy editing, developmental editing, and occasional writing for diverse youth and adult audiences, ensuring biblically faithful, usable resources with design sensitivity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a humanities field or equivalent.
• 4+ years of experience in an editorial context, including copy editing and proofreading.
• Excellent communication and editing skills; able to adapt tone for different audiences; proficient with Word and Adobe; Chicago style familiarity; comfortable with traditional and web publishing tools; Spanish competency desirable.

Responsibilities

• Perform quality assurance: review and edit articles, devotionals, audio/visual scripts and productions, social media, donor collateral, app content, books, and other pieces for grammar, depth, clarity, and alignment.
• Fulfill editorial product and platform support tasks: write, edit, or post content and metadata on Pathwright LMS, ABS apps, Substack, ABS web pages, and social media platforms.
• Perform licensing and publishing reviews: review and approve licensing requests and copyedit or proofread new settings for print Bibles and Scripture portions.
• Collaborate cross-functionally: partner with marketing, research, and ministry teams and outside subject matter experts and contractors to ensure alignment with guidelines and goals.
• Elevate the ABS brand and Content Development Standards: uphold brand through QA and content creation; ensure content aligns with biblical standards and ABS messaging.
