Job summary

MetaOption LLC is seeking a Screw Machine Manufacturing Engineer to develop and optimize processes for Acme-Gridley and Davenport multi-spindle screw machines. You will design tooling, troubleshoot complex machining issues, and drive continuous improvement across safety, quality, productivity, and cost targets.

You’ll work with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Tooling, and Production to ensure customer specifications are met and processos are documented in standard setup

Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelors preferred in mechanical/manufacturing engineering.
• 8–10 years hands-on experience with Acme-Gridley and Davenport screw machines.
• Process improvement skills to reduce waste and downtime.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints; cams, gears and gearing knowledge.
• Proficiency grinding and setting form tools, shave tools, drills, and cutoffs.
• Strong shop mathematics, decimals, fractions, and metric conversions.
• Experience documenting electro-mechanical designs with SolidWorks or similar.

Responsibilities

Screw Machine Manufacturing Engineer

Reports to: Manufacturing Engineer Manager

Job Summary

The Screw Machine Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes for Acme-Gridley and Davenport multi-spindle automatic screw machines. This position serves as the technical expert for screw machine operations by designing tooling and manufacturing processes, troubleshooting complex machining issues, improving equipment performance, supporting new product introductions, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Working closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Tooling, and Production, the Screw Machine Engineer develops manufacturing processes that improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost while ensuring customer specifications are consistently achieved.

Essential Functions

• Develop manufacturing processes for new and existing products
• Determine optimum cutting speeds, feeds, tooling geometry, cycle times, and machining sequences to maximize productivity
• Design tooling layouts, cam configurations, tooling sequences, and machine setups for Acme-Gridley and Davenport screw machines
• Develop standardized setup documentation and process instructions
• Perform complex machine setups and get approval of new jobs
• Optimize existing machine setups to improve throughput, quality, and equipment utilization
• Provide advanced technical troubleshooting for machining, tooling, and process issues
• Support production during startups and critical manufacturing challenges
• Lead initiatives to reduce setup times, scrap, downtime, tooling costs, and cycle times

• Ensure manufacturing processes consistently meet customer specifications and quality standards

Additional Responsibilities

• Participate in Kaizen events and cost reduction initiatives
• Support corrective and preventive action activities
• Provide engineering support during customer visits, audits, and new product launches
• Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required to support production demands or equipment installations
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Maintain LOTO procedures

Qualifications

• An associate or bachelor’s degree in mechanical/manufacturing engineering is preferred
• Minimum of 8-10 years of hands-on experience in the setup, operation, and engineering of Acme-Gridley and Davenport screw machines.
• Process improvement skills
• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, as well as an in-depth understanding of cams, gears, and mechanical gearing.
• Proficiency in grinding and setting form tools, shave tools, drills, and cutoffs.
• Solid understanding of shop mathematics, decimals, fractions, and metric conversions.
• Proficient with the use of SolidWorks or similar Engineering Design software for the purpose of documenting Electro-mechanical system designs.
