Job summary

Branscome is seeking a Screed Operator to ensure proper asphalt thickness and finish on paving projects in Virginia. You will adjust screed height and gates, monitor material flow, and work with the foreman to lay out daily grades and alignment.

The role requires high school diploma or GED, at least 2 years' paving equipment experience, reliable communication, physical stamina, and willingness to work overtime and night shifts in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Lift and bolt extensions weighing ~70 lbs to adjust screed width using hand or pneumatic tools.
• Monitor material distribution along screed and control screed/gate direction to avoid voids at curbs and joints.
• Turn valves to regulate asphalt temperature and ensure consistent flow from hopper.

Job description

• To operate the screed part of paver and ensure the thickness of asphalt as dispersed from paver by adjusting the height and width of screed and gates.

Description of Duties:

• Ensure a safe work environmentin compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
• Assist foreman - layout work daily (i.e., use string line to set grades, edge of pavement).
• Lift and bolt on extensions weighing approx. 70 lbs. to adjust screed width using hand or pneumatic tools.
• Light burners to heat screed.
• Observe distribution of paving material along screed and control direction of screed and gates to eliminate voids at curbs and joints.
• Turn valves to regulate temperature of asphalt flowing from hopper when asphalt begins to harden on screed.
• Must be capable of performing repetitive motion to adjust screed to provide an accurate and quality finished paving product.
• Perform all other duties deemed necessary or assigned by supervisor.

Education:

• High School Diploma / GED

Work Experience:

• Minimum 2years of experience with pavingequipment preferred.

Physical Demands:

• Job requires the following motions: climbing, bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, vibrating, and reaching.
• Must be able to standon a machine and operate for several hours without stopping.
• Requires lifting up to 50lbs.
• Overtime and night work is required.
• Potential exposure to extremes of hot or cold weather.
