Job summary

Alter Trading Corporation is seeking an on-site Yard Operator to load, unload, and sort ferrous and non-ferrous materials, inspect inbound and outbound loads, and maintain safe yard traffic.

You will operate equipment such as forklift, skid steer, front end loader, and excavator with attachment, coordinate with drivers and rail staff, ensure paperwork and inspections are complete, and uphold safety and service excellence.

Strong communication, reliability, and a high school diploma are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with prior equipment experience (forklift, tractor, skid steer, front end loader or excavator).
• Strong communication, team-oriented attitude, and basic reading/writing/arithmetic skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Load, unload, and sort ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
• Inspect inbound and outbound loads for compliance and grading.
• Provide courteous, professional experience to drivers and suppliers.
• Coordinate with operators and scale staff for safe traffic flow.
• Inspect for non-conforming items (mercury switches, ballasts, sealed containers, etc.).
• Troubleshoot to minimize downtime and maintain safety protocols.
• Coordinate with rail crew to switch and weigh rail cars.
• Complete inspections and required paperwork.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
