Job summary

Ferrous Processing and Trading Company is seeking an Equipment Operator for our Detroit, MI location. The role involves processing scrap metals using heavy equipment, sorting materials, and maintaining equipment to ensure safe, efficient operation.

The ideal candidate will have at least 18 years old, a high school diploma or GED (or 1+ year operator experience), strong reading/writing and math basics, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or GED or 1+ year equipment operator experience.
• Ability to read, write and perform basic math.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload materials from storage, production areas, docks, and vehicles.
• Operate and maintain heavy equipment (front end loaders, baler, yard vehicles).
• Sort metals, identify grades, and remove non-conforming materials.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and basic housekeeping.
• Interact with customers or drivers to direct or assist them.
