Job summary

Summit Bechtel Reserve (SBR) seeks staff to lead Scout Camp Scoutcraft program areas, mentoring and coaching youth and fellow staff while delivering outdoor skills and merit badge sessions.

As part of the Justice National Scout Camp team, you will supervise instruction, manage logistics, participate in camp-wide activities, uphold Scout Oath and Law, and support a safe, engaging environment for Scouts ages 10-17 during the summer.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 21+.
• Preferred: Previous leadership, Scouting/Summit experience, and strong organizational skills.
• Preferred: Knowledge of Scouting/outdoor skills, including knots/lashings, camping, cooking, and first aid.
• Successfully complete and obtain Outdoor Skills section of National Camping School (training provided).
• Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (background screening).
• Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Scoutcraft program area of Scout Camp, including supervising, mentoring, and coaching staff

• Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe work area
• Perform additional duties assigned by SBR leadership
• Abide by policies and procedures outlined in the SBR staff handbook

Provide high-quality advancement and enrichment experiences for Justice National Scout Camp guests in a summer camp setting by facilitating and contributing to fun, safe, and engaging programs.

Physical & Practical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and hike, up to 8 hours daily and ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds
• Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record, including height/weight guidelines
• Housing: 10'x12' platform tent in Staff Camp | Uniform: Summit Staff Uniform | Work Hours: 55+

The Summit Bechtel Reserve (SBR) is a 10,600-acre outdoor adventure and education facility located near New River Gorge National Park in southern West Virginia. As one of Scouting America's National High Adventure Bases, the Summit provides transformative experiences for Scouts and other youth.
