Job summary

Keck Hospital of USC is seeking a Scope Processing Technician II to ensure safe, high-quality cleaning and disinfection of endoscopes and related equipment used in procedures.

You will decontaminate, reprocess with AER units, monitor chemicals, and maintain clean departments while documenting activities and contributing to patient safety and care standards.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Specialized/technical training in sterile processing is required.
• Two to three years of OR/SPD/GI environment experience preferred.
• Certification in Sterile Processing (HSPA, CBSPD) is required; CER preferred.

Job description

The Scope Processing Technician II plays critical role in ensuring the safety, effective, and efficient cleaning and disinfection of endoscopes and related equipment used in medical procedures. The Scope Processing Technician II is responsible for following strict protocols to prevent infections and ensure the highest standards of patient care.Essential DutiesResponsible for decontaminating all Endoscopes & Probes according to manufacturer’s guidelines (IFU).Ensures all equipment is covered properly prior to transfer to/from reprocessing area.Reprocesses Endoscopes utilizing Automated Endoscopic Reprocessor (AER) Units.Perform Chemical Monitoring of the GUS System as per Manual High-Level Disinfectant (HLD) Instruction for Use (IFU)Ensures the department is clean, maintain, and restock throughout the shift.Attends in-service / department meetings.Assist and educates new staff to Endoscopy equipment.Applies appropriate technique of donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). And its mandatory use,Completes annual skills / competency per hospital policy/ procedure.Responsible for accurate documentation.Ability to communicate effectively in a professional manner.Provides for own professional growth regarding trends in equipment and high-level disinfection methods through formal and informal continuing education.Participates in department Performance Improvement projects.Supports continuous and ongoing customer satisfaction through the hospital-wide service excellence standards.Complies with all Joint Commission and Hospital standards as they relate to the department.Travel to other scope processing departments/areas when necessary to meet organizational needsRequired to be on on-call/standbyResponsible for updating/providing inventory report to department and/or stakeholdersPerforms other related duties as assigned.QualificationsReq High School or equivalentReq Specialized/technical training A graduate of a state approved accredited school of Surgical Technology/Sterile Processing Technician is required for all staff hired or transferred into the position effective June 15th, 2026. Incumbents prior to June 15th, 2026 are exempt from this requirement.Req 2 years Two (2) - three (3) year experience in an OR/SPD/GI environment.Pref 2 years Two (2) years of endoscopic scope processing experience preferred.Req Knowledge of handling and cleaning of Medical Equipment and related support supplies for patient care.Req Sterile Processing Certification Current Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician through an accredited organization (HSPA, CBSPD).Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date.
