Qualifications

• Graduate of a state approved accredited school of Surgical Technology/Sterile Processing Technician.
• Two to three years experience in OR/SPD/GI environment.
• Current Sterile Processing Certification (HSPA, CBSPD).
• CER certification preferred (CER).
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City); renewal before expiration.
• Knowledge of handling and cleaning of medical equipment and related supplies.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminates all endoscopes and probes according to manufacturer guidelines (IFU).
• Reprocesses endoscopes using Automated Endoscopic Reprocessor (AER) units.
• Maintains clean, stocked, and organized reprocessing area throughout the shift.
• Performs chemical monitoring of high-level disinfectants per IFU and policy.
• Completes annual skills/competency requirements per hospital policy.
• Ensures accurate documentation and professional communication.
• On-call/standby as required and travel to other scope processing areas when needed.

Job description

The Scope Processing Technician II plays critical role in ensuring the safety, effective, and efficient cleaning and disinfection of endoscopes and related equipment used in medical procedures. The Scope Processing Technician II is responsible for following strict protocols to prevent infections and ensure the highest standards of patient care.

Essential Duties

• Responsible for decontaminating all Endoscopes & Probes according to manufacturer's guidelines (IFU).
• Ensures all equipment is covered properly prior to transfer to/from reprocessing area.
• Reprocesses Endoscopes utilizing Automated Endoscopic Reprocessor (AER) Units.
• Perform Chemical Monitoring of the GUS System as per Manual High-Level Disinfectant (HLD) Instruction for Use (IFU)
• Ensures the department is clean, maintain, and restock throughout the shift.
• Attends in-service / department meetings.
• Assist and educates new staff to Endoscopy equipment.
• Applies appropriate technique of donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). And its mandatory use,
• Completes annual skills / competency per hospital policy/ procedure.
• Responsible for accurate documentation.
• Ability to communicate effectively in a professional manner.
• Provides for own professional growth regarding trends in equipment and high-level disinfection methods through formal and informal continuing education.
• Participates in department Performance Improvement projects.
• Supports continuous and ongoing customer satisfaction through the hospital-wide service excellence standards.
• Complies with all Joint Commission and Hospital standards as they relate to the department.
• Travel to other scope processing departments/areas when necessary to meet organizational needs
• Required to be on on-call/standby
• Responsible for updating/providing inventory report to department and/or stakeholders
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Req High School or equivalent
• Req Specialized/technical training A graduate of a state approved accredited school of Surgical Technology/Sterile Processing Technician is required for all staff hired or transferred into the position effective June 15th, 2026. Incumbents prior to June 15th, 2026 are exempt from this requirement.
• Req 2 years Two (2) - three (3) year experience in an OR/SPD/GI environment.
• Pref 2 years Two (2) years of endoscopic scope processing experience preferred.
• Req Knowledge of handling and cleaning of Medical Equipment and related support supplies for patient care.

• Req Sterile Processing Certification Current Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician through an accredited organization (HSPA, CBSPD).
• Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
• Pref Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) through an accredited organization (HSPA, CBSPD).

The hourly rate range for this position is $27.45 - $46.68.
