Job summary

Keck Hospital of USC in Los Angeles, CA, is seeking a Scope Processing Technician II to ensure safe, efficient cleaning and disinfection of endoscopes in a busy sterile processing department.

You will decontaminate, reprocess with Automated Endoscopic Reprocessors (AER), perform chemical monitoring, maintain inventory, support staff training, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives. Evening full-time union position.

Qualifications

• Requires graduation from a state-approved Surgical Technology/Sterile Processing Technician program.
• 2–3 years of OR/SPD/GI environment experience.
• Current Sterile Processing Certification (HSPA, CBSPD).
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) or obtain within 30 days of hire.
• CER certification preferred for endoscope reprocessing.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminate Endoscopes & Probes per manufacturer guidelines (IFU).
• Reprocess Endoscopes using Automated Endoscopic Reprocessors (AER).
• Perform Chemical Monitoring of the GUS System per High-Level Disinfectant IFU.
• Maintain department cleanliness, restock supplies, and document activities.
• Assist and educate new staff on Endoscopy equipment.
• Communicate professionally and support performance improvement projects.
• On-call/standby and travel to other scope processing areas as needed.
• Update inventory reporting to department/stakeholders.

The Scope Processing Technician II plays critical role in ensuring the safety, effective, and efficient cleaning and disinfection of endoscopes and related equipment used in medical procedures. The Scope Processing Technician II is responsible for following strict protocols to prevent infections and ensure the highest standards of patient care.

Essential Duties

• Responsible for decontaminating all Endoscopes & Probes according to manufacturer’s guidelines (IFU).
• Ensures all equipment is covered properly prior to transfer to/from reprocessing area.
• Reprocesses Endoscopes utilizing Automated Endoscopic Reprocessor (AER) Units.
• Perform Chemical Monitoring of the GUS System as per Manual High-Level Disinfectant (HLD) Instruction for Use (IFU)
• Ensures the department is clean, maintain, and restock throughout the shift.
• Attends in-service / department meetings.
• Assist and educates new staff to Endoscopy equipment.
• Applies appropriate technique of donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). And its mandatory use,
• Completes annual skills / competency per hospital policy/ procedure.
• Responsible for accurate documentation.
• Ability to communicate effectively in a professional manner.
• Provides for own professional growth regarding trends in equipment and high-level disinfection methods through formal and informal continuing education.
• Participates in department Performance Improvement projects.
• Supports continuous and ongoing customer satisfaction through the hospital-wide service excellence standards.
• Complies with all Joint Commission and Hospital standards as they relate to the department.
• Travel to other scope processing departments/areas when necessary to meet organizational needs
• Required to be on on-call/standby
• Responsible for updating/providing inventory report to department and/or stakeholders
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Req High School or equivalent
• Req Specialized/technical training A graduate of a state approved accredited school of Surgical Technology/Sterile Processing Technician is required for all staff hired or transferred into the position effective June 15th, 2026. Incumbents prior to June 15th, 2026 are exempt from this requirement.
• Req 2 years Two (2) - three (3) year experience in an OR/SPD/GI environment.
• Pref 2 years Two (2) years of endoscopic scope processing experience preferred.
• Req Knowledge of handling and cleaning of Medical Equipment and related support supplies for patient care.
• Req Sterile Processing Certification Current Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician through an accredited organization (HSPA, CBSPD).
• Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
• Pref Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) through an accredited organization (HSPA, CBSPD).
