Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 3+ years or Master’s degree in related field
  • Experience with immunohistochemistry and mRNA in situ hybridization; multiplexing assays
  • Knowledge of quantitative image analysis techniques and AI-based analysis
  • Familiarity with immunology and autoimmune diseases
  • Ability to collaborate in matrixed teams and communicate effectively

Job description

Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Scientist II to join our Immunology and Respiratory Diseases Research Department located at our Ridgefield, CT facility. The purpose of this position is to support disease positioning efforts using quantitative digital image analysis of protein and mRNA expression in human tissues to enhance our understanding of the biology of therapeutically relevant proteins and pathways in health and disease. This will involve the application of multiplex fluorescence immunohistochemistry and mRNA in situ hybridization, support for spatial transcriptomics and proteomics, the development and application of image analysis algorithms, and the management of tissue resources.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Initiates, designs, interprets accurately, and completes routine procedures in an independent and efficient manner, with minimal supervision; demonstrates technical ability to assist in the design and execution of non-routine experiments with supervision.
  • Independently operates and is responsible for lab equipment; troubleshoots effectively.
  • Applies basic scientific principles with minimal guidance; performs literature searches and extracts relevant information from published protocols.
  • Obtains, optimizes, and validates antibodies for research activities; procures and validates appropriate controls.
  • Assists with the incorporation of new technologies or best practices in area of molecular histopathology and image analysis.
  • Effectively communicates and defends own work, orally and in writing, in the context of the team goals at meetings.
  • Reports and treats data with a high level of integrity and ethics.
  • Complies with applicable regulations, performing all work in a safe manner; maintains proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies.
Requirements
  • Bachelors Degree with 3+ years experience in related scientific discipline or Masters Degree in related scientific discipline or equivalent experience in related field
  • Industry experience is desirable
  • Laboratory expertise developing, validating, and running immunohistochemistry, mRNA in situ hybridization, as well as multiplexing immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization assays
  • Knowledge of quantitative image analysis techniques and software, and AI-based image analysis
  • Familiarity with immunology, auto-immune and auto-inflammatory diseases is desirable
  • Strong inter-personal skills and a proven track record of collaboration and working effectively in matrixed teams
  • An ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in an inter-disciplinary environment
  • Other desirable attributes include superior problem-solving skills, strong motivation, and high levels of organization.
  • Ensure the safety of the laboratory, quality control and quality assurance standards for the histology laboratory

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
Compensation Data

The base salary range for Scientist II is $74,800.00 to $112,200.00. The position may be eligible for a role specific discretionary bonus, relocation, and/or other compensation elements. We continuously review market data and may adjust salary ranges as needed in the future.
