Job summary

AbbVie Immunology is seeking a scientist to design, execute, and interpret in vitro studies focused on drug candidates and targets. The Complex In Vitro Model group will employ primary human immune cells, organoids, and advanced 3D systems to characterize potency, mechanism of action, and signaling pathways.

The role requires strong quantitative skills, hands-on experience with ELISA, flow cytometry, and cell culture, plus the ability to communicate results clearly in written and oral formats.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Biological science with focus in Immunology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or a related discipline with typically 7+ (BS) or 5+ (MS) years of relevant lab experience.
  • Proficiency in culturing primary human immune cells, immortalized cell lines, and organ/tissue cultures, including differentiated cells and iPSCs, using standard tissue culture and transwell systems.
  • Experience developing and applying complex in vitro models, including co-culture and advanced 3D cellular systems, to support discovery programs.
  • Experience designing experiments to study cell signaling, phosphoproteins, second messenger pathways, cell proliferation, gene reporter assays, and soluble mediator release.
  • Expertise in ELISA/MSD, alphaLISA, HTRF, PCR, multicolor flow cytometry, high content microscopy, and related methodologies.
  • Demonstrated motivation, strong attention to detail, scientific curiosity, and eagerness to learn novel in vitro pharmacology techniques.
  • Strong background in statistics with proficiency in spreadsheets and curve-fitting software such as Microsoft Excel and GraphPad Prism.
  • Skilled in leveraging automation to increase assay robustness, improve throughput, and enable miniaturization of experimental workflows.
  • Highly collaborative and able to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional, multidisciplinary environment, with strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and perform biochemical and cellular studies of drug potency and mechanism of action using primary human blood cells, cell lines and complex in vitro systems such as organoids or organ-on-chip models.
  • Analysis, interpret and clearly communicate quantitative data.
  • Conduct and organize activities and communicate through oral and written presentations.
  • Read and apply relevant scientific literature.
