Job summary

Emulate, Inc. is seeking a Scientist II with strong cell biology expertise to support Organ-Chip studies in neuroscience at our Boston, MA site.

You will design and execute Organ-Chip experiments, culture mammalian cells, use imaging and flow cytometry, analyze data, and present results to internal teams and partners. Qualifications: BA/BS with 2–3 years or MS with 1–2 years in neuroscience; base salary $90,000–$100,000, up to 20% annual bonus, equity, and standard benefits.

Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist II with strong expertise in cell biology and hands‑on experience in advanced in vitro models to support the development and execution of cutting‑edge Organ-Chip studies in the neuroscience area. This role is ideal for a scientist who thrives in a fast‑paced, collaborative, and innovation‑driven environment and is excited to help shape the future of human‑relevant research and drug discovery.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Independently design, prepare, and execute Organ-Chip experiments aligned with program and study objectives.
  • Apply strong cell biology and sterile cell culture skills to reliably seed, maintain, and monitor Organ-Chip systems.
  • Troubleshoot experimental challenges and contribute to continuous refinement of model performance.
Technical Expertise & Laboratory Operations
  • Operate and develop proficiency with advanced laboratory technologies, including:
  • Imaging modalities (phase contrast, fluorescence, live-cell, confocal)
  • Molecular and protein expression assays
  • Flow cytometry
  • Contribute to the improvement of laboratory workflows, SOPs, and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of protocols, assays, data, and analysis methods.
Scientific Rigor & Collaboration
  • Participate in peer review of study designs, data analyses, and interpretations to ensure scientific quality.
  • Analyze, organize, and present data with clarity and attention to detail.
  • Prepare content for internal and external presentations, technical reports, and scientific publications.
  • Communicate results, study progress, and future directions effectively with internal stakeholders and external partners or customers.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree (BA or BS) with 2-3 years lab experience or MS with 1-2 years lab experience, ideally within a neuroscience laboratory
  • Prior experience working with mammalian cell cultures or stem cells with knowledge of sterile cell culture technique
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems, and provide possible solutions
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to exercise good time management and prioritize tasks while successfully managing multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Knowledge of statistics, cell/molecular biology or building in vitro models that replicate aspects of disease is highly desirable
Work Authorization & Location:

This position is based on site in Boston, MA. Candidates must currently reside in the greater Boston area and be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship. Emulate is not able to provide visa sponsorship or relocation assistance for this role.

  • Base Salary: $90,000 - $100,000 annually, commensurate with experience
  • Annual Bonus: Performance-based bonus opportunity, up to 20% of base salary
