Job summary

ARUP Laboratories, a national clinical and anatomic pathology reference laboratory based in Salt Lake City, Utah, seeks a scientist to develop, validate, and improve assays, and to write technical procedures for transitioning into the clinical lab. This role operates with more autonomy than Scientist I and reports to the R&D Manager.

The position requires strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills, with PhD or Master’s plus post-graduate experience and active collaboration

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or related field required.
  • Master's degree or PhD preferred.
  • PhD or higher for internal promotion consideration.
  • PhD in a relevant technical field or Master’s with 2+ years post-graduate experience; Bachelor's with 4+ years post-graduate experience.
  • 2-4 years of relevant scientific experience beyond education requirement.
  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees, designs, and executes development and validation/verification of new assays or assay improvements for the technical section.
  • Performs literature reviews to inform new assay development and assay improvement.
  • Maintains knowledge of the field and emerging technologies and their potential applications to the reference setting.
  • Writes analytical protocols, development plans, and validation/verification plans.
  • Ensures protocols are in compliance with department, company, and regulatory body regulations.
  • Critically evaluates and interprets experimental data.
  • Compiles data and reports into Validation/Verification packets per ARUP R&D policies.
  • Prioritizes projects and tasks and demonstrates effective time management.
  • Communicates progress and results with Medical Directors, R&D Manager, and Technical Operations.
  • Provides laboratory support for validation of new equipment, processes, and methods.
