Job summary

System One is seeking a Scientist II to perform hands-on laboratory research and LC-MS/MS analysis supporting animal PK, TK, PD, and efficacy studies in drug discovery projects. This contract position requires meticulous data processing, reporting, and collaboration with in vivo teams.

The candidate will use Sciex Analyst and Phoenix WinNonlin for PK analysis, develop analytical protocols, and maintain electronic lab notebooks while adhering to safety and quality standards. Onsite in Alameda, CA.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on LC-MS/MS and HRMS in biological matrices.
  • Phoenix 64 WinNonlin experience for PK data analysis.
  • Sciex instruments and related software experience is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree with 2–5 years or Master’s with 1+ year of experience.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform LC-MS/MS analysis of small molecules for PK/TK/PD and efficacy studies.
  • Conduct formulation tests for pre-clinical studies and in vitro ADME experiments.
  • Acquire, process, and report data using specified software.
  • Collaborate with in vivo team for formulation and stability testing.
  • Prepare analytical protocols and results reports using Word, Excel, GraphPad, and PowerPoint.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain instruments to ensure data integrity.
  • Adapt new technology platforms for DMPK challenges.
  • Maintain electronic lab notebooks per company policy.
  • Follow safety practices and training requirements.

Job description

Job Title: Scientist II
Location: Alameda, CA
Type: Contract
Compensation: 50-55/hr
Work Model: Onsite – onsite
Hours: 40.0

Responsibilities
  • Perform hands-on laboratory research and routine LC-MS/MS analysis of small molecules to support animal pharmacokinetic (PK), toxicokinetic (TK), PD, and efficacy studies for drug discovery projects.
  • Perform formulation tests for pre-clinical in vivo studies and in vitro ADME experiments, including in vitro stability (e.g., microsomal, hepatocyte, and plasma) and protein binding.
  • Acquire and process data, interpret results, and generate reports using multiple software tools such as Sciex Analyst Software 1.7, Sciex OS 2.0, and Phoenix 64 WinNonlin software for PK reports.
  • Collaborate with the in vivo team to perform formulation and stability testing.
  • Prepare concise and organized analytical protocols and results reports using MS Word, Excel, GraphPad, and effective PowerPoint presentations for drug discovery project teams.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain instruments to ensure analytical performance, data reproducibility, and reliability.
  • Adapt new technology platforms and tools for DMPK challenges.
  • Maintain electronic laboratory notebooks in a complete, consistent, and concise manner following company policies.
  • Adhere to safety practices and participate in mandatory safety and training programs.
Requirements
  • Hands-on experience with LC-MS/MS, HRMS, and liquid handler for quantitation of small molecules and metabolites in biological matrices such as whole blood, plasma, serum, and tissues.
  • Experience using Phoenix 64 WinNonlin software for PK data analysis and report generation.
  • Experience with RapidFire/QTOF 6545XT, Sciex UHPLC/ZenoTOF 7600, and Sciex UHPLC/QTRAP 6500+ systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of formulation testing for pre-clinical in vivo studies.
  • Proficiency in Sciex and Agilent LC/MS/MS instruments, ESI and APCI ionization, and QTOF mass spectrometry, along with related software tools.
  • Skilled in sample extraction techniques for small molecules in matrices like blood, plasma, urine, feces, bile, and tumors.
  • Understanding of peptide extraction and LC-MS analysis is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Phoenix 64 WinNonlin software for PK data analysis.
  • Capable of working independently, multi-tasking, and prioritizing assignments under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline with 2-5 years of experience, or Master’s degree with at least 1 year of experience.
