Job summary

System One is seeking an Associate Research Scientist in Alameda, CA for a contract role focusing on small molecule drug discovery. You will develop and optimize HTS biochemical and biophysical assays, and drive MoA studies while collaborating with internal teams.

The position requires hands-on SPR proficiency, HTS assay development for 1536/384-well formats, and familiarity with lab automation. Strong communication and meticulous record-keeping are essential.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with biophysical and biochemical assay technologies relevant to small molecule drug discovery is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) techniques for characterizing small molecule-protein complexes is highly desired.
  • Experience with assay development for HTS applications and designing workflows is required.
  • Significant experience developing assays in 1536- and 384-well plate formats is required.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory automation equipment such as liquid handlers, dispensers, and readers is a strong plus.
  • Broad understanding of biophysical (SPR, MST, NanoDSF, BLI, thermal shift assays, etc.) and biochemical assays (HTRF, AlphaLISA, Lumit, MSD, ELISA, FP, GLO, etc.)
  • Ability to apply automation tools to assay development and execution
  • Awareness of current scientific literature and advancements in drug discovery technologies
  • Experience with heterobifunctional degraders or molecular glues is a plus
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in related discipline + 5 years of related experience; or Associate’s degree + 7 years; High School Diploma/GED + 9 years
  • Excellent laboratory, communication, and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Consistently contribute to the design, planning, and execution of HTS campaigns and mechanism of action (MoA) studies
  • Independently nominate, evaluate, and implement new technologies, protocols, and workflows to support projects from hit finding, hit validation, to lead optimization stages, as well as MoA studies
  • Collaborate with internal teams and departments to discuss and resolve project and/or department needs
  • Present data and reports on project status to department head/manager and at research meetings
  • Communicate scientific results to manager, department, and project team partners and/or collaborators
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks in a complete, consistent, and concise manner in accordance with company policies
  • Comply with company health and safety policies and general laboratory practices
  • Other responsibilities, as assigned
