If you are passionate about cutting-edge discoveries and innovative solutions, we invite you to explore exciting opportunities with us. Let's shape the future of drug research together!

Overview

EnquBio is a technology-driven discovery and contract research organization (CRO) based in San Diego, providing biology-focused preclinical drug discovery services. We partner with biopharmaceutical clients to accelerate the development of novel therapeutics across a broad range of disease areas.

As we continue to grow, we are seeking a highly motivated Scientist I to join our In Vitro Pharmacology group. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development, optimization, and execution of in vitro assays to support drug discovery and screening programs for internal and client-sponsored projects. This role requires strong scientific and technical expertise, experimental rigor, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative and fast-paced CRO environment.

This position is ideal for a scientist who enjoys hands-on laboratory work, scientific problem-solving, assay development, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities
  • Design, optimize, and execute cell-based and biochemical assays to support drug discovery and SAR screening programs.
  • Independently plan and perform experiments with minimal supervision.
  • Analyze, interpret, and present experimental data to project teams and management.
  • Develop and troubleshoot assay workflows for screening and mechanistic studies.
  • Support assay transfer, validation, and implementation for client programs.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant laboratory documentation using ELN/LIMS systems.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation, including plate readers, liquid handling systems, and imaging platforms.
  • Contribute to experimental design, study planning, and scientific discussions across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Prepare technical summaries, reports, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure work is conducted in compliance with SOPs, safety policies, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Support general laboratory operations and contribute to process improvements and capability expansion initiatives.
  • Mentor junior research associates or train new team members as needed.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, or a related field; or Master's degree with 3+ years of relevant industry experience in biotech, pharma, or CRO environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with cell-based and biochemical assays, including development and execution in 96- and 384-well formats for screening and SAR studies.
  • Solid understanding of molecular and cell biology techniques, including mammalian cell culture and compound handling.
  • Experience analyzing, interpreting, and presenting complex biological data.
  • Experience with assay detection platforms (luminescence, fluorescence, absorbance, radiometric, and/or imaging-based assays) and familiarity with assay automation and high-throughput screening workflows is highly desirable.
  • Experience with automated liquid handling systems, ELN/LIMS platforms, and data analysis tools (e.g., GraphPad Prism) is preferred.
  • Experience in CRO or client-facing project environments is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Physical Requirements

This role involves working in laboratory and office environments. Candidates must be able to:

  • Work with biohazardous materials and chemicals in compliance with applicable safety standards.
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures involving biological samples and research materials.
  • Wear required PPE including gloves, lab coat, respirator, and eye/face protection.
  • Stand, sit, and walk for extended periods; crouch, bend, twist, and reach as needed; perform tasks involving repetitive motions.
  • Routinely lift, push, or pull up to 10 lbs.
  • Work under standard laboratory environmental conditions.
  • Possess visual acuity sufficient to perform detailed laboratory work and data review.
