Scientist – Functional Proteomics

Location: Seattle, WA

Compensation: $115,000–$150,000 annual base salary

Employment Type: Direct Hire

Work Arrangement: Primarily onsite

Yoh is proactively seeking a Scientist – Functional Proteomics for an anticipated opportunity with a biotechnology company in Seattle, WA.

We are looking for a hands‑on scientist with expertise in mass spectrometry‑based proteomics who can design rigorous quantitative experiments and translate complex proteomic data into meaningful biological insights. This position will support drug‑discovery research involving target identification and validation, compound characterization, and mechanism‑of‑action studies.

The ideal candidate combines strong experimental proteomics capabilities with a deep understanding of protein biology and the ability to collaborate across experimental biology, computational science, and drug‑discovery teams.

What You’ll Do
  • Design and execute quantitative and functional proteomics experiments supporting target discovery, target validation, compound profiling, and mechanism-of-action research.
  • Develop and optimize protein extraction, digestion, enrichment, fractionation, and sample-preparation workflows for mass spectrometry-based studies.
  • Design studies evaluating protein abundance, activity, binding, localization, and responses to compound treatment.
  • Establish appropriate experimental controls, biological and technical replicates, normalization strategies, and quantitative approaches.
  • Develop proteomic strategies for challenging protein classes, including transcription factors, chromatin-associated proteins, and other regulatory proteins.
  • Perform mammalian cell culture and cellular compound-treatment experiments as needed.
  • Generate, analyze, and interpret quantitative proteomics datasets in collaboration with computational scientists.
  • Integrate proteomic findings with genomic, transcriptomic, cellular, and pharmacological datasets to develop biological conclusions.
  • Troubleshoot experimental workflows and improve sensitivity, reproducibility, robustness, and throughput.
  • Support the development of automated and high-throughput proteomics workflows.
  • Present experimental findings, scientific interpretations, and recommendations to cross-functional project teams.
  • Contribute to scientific strategy, technical documentation, publications, and presentations.
What We’re Looking For
  • Ph.D. in proteomics, biochemistry, molecular biology, chemical biology, analytical chemistry, systems biology, or a related scientific discipline preferred.
  • Hands‑on experience with mass spectrometry‑based proteomics.
  • Strong understanding of quantitative proteomics experimental design, including sample preparation, controls, replicates, and normalization.
  • Experience generating, processing, and/or interpreting quantitative proteomics datasets.
  • Strong foundation in protein biology and hypothesis‑driven experimental science.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex datasets into meaningful biological conclusions.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot experimental workflows and make scientifically sound decisions.
  • Strong communication skills and experience collaborating across multidisciplinary scientific teams.
Highly Relevant Experience
  • Functional proteomics or chemoproteomics
  • Compound‑target identification or target‑engagement studies
  • Target discovery, target validation, or mechanism‑of‑action research
  • Thermal proteome profiling or other protein‑stability approaches
  • Affinity‑based or enrichment‑based proteomic methods
  • DIA, label‑free, isotopic, or multiplexed quantitative proteomics
  • Nuclear, chromatin, or transcription‑factor proteomics
  • Mammalian cell culture and compound‑treatment studies
  • Drug discovery or pharmacology
  • Automated or high‑throughput proteomics workflows
  • Proteomics analysis tools such as DIA‑NN, Spectronaut, Skyline, FragPipe, MaxQuant, or similar platforms
  • Python and/or R
Additional Information
