Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Scientific Software Engineer to join our engineering team in close collaboration with colleagues across Europe. You will design, develop and maintain the SimPro family of engineering simulation tools used to aid bearing selection and development.

The role requires strong C++ and Qt/Python expertise, plus experience in software architecture and cloud-based development.

Qualifications

• Master’s with at least 3 years of professional experience or a Ph.D. in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering, Software Engineering, Scientific computing, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Solid experience in software development, with proficiency in C++.
• Experience with software design and architecture, cloud application development, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software, Qt development, Python or developing scientific or engineering software.
• Demonstrated interest in or experience with mechanical engineering principles.
• Well‑developed skills in analysing issues, solving problems, and staying organised.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop robust software applications for engineering analysis and product development.
• Collaborate with engineers and product managers/owners to define software requirements and specifications.
• Develop and modernise the software development framework, including software architecture, system design, I/O and post‑processing, build systems and CI/CD.
• Implement or integrate libraries of algorithms and models for engineering calculations and simulations.
• Ensure software quality through extensive testing, validation, and documentation.
• Stay updated with the latest software development trends and technologies relevant to mechanical engineering.
• Provide technical information for testing and support teams.
• Participate in code reviews and follow software development best practices.
