Job summary

Scorpion Therapeutics seeks a senior pathology leader to embed AI/ML-enabled pathology into nonclinical workflows. You will collaborate with iDigPath to advance quantitative pathology analysis, improving tissue endpoints across studies.

You will supervise primary reads, guide MoA understanding, and ensure data quality for AI/ML tools, with involvement in regulatory documents and cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • DVM (or equivalent) required; PhD desired.
  • Board certification ACVP/ECVP/JCVP.
  • 10+ years in pharmaceutical drug development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide anatomic/clinical pathology and toxicology leadership in R&D.
  • Lead pathology contributions to target validation and MoA understanding.
  • Oversee qualification of AI/ML pathology tools and data governance.
  • Offer IHC/ISH/spatial endpoint expertise with iPath/iTox, DMPK, and Drug Discovery Units.
  • Perform/peer-review reads of animal tissues and report findings.

Job description

Objective / Purpose
  • Provide scientific and strategic leadership to embed AI/ML-enabled pathology and digital pathology into nonclinical research workflows.
  • Partner with the NCSP iDigPath team to advance AI/ML for quantitative, high-content pathology analysis to improve sensitivity, reproducibility, and translational relevance of tissue endpoints.
  • Implement workflows integrating digital pathology into target validation, efficacy/safety assessment strategies, primary evaluation and peer review of specimens/data, and study reports.
Accountabilities
  • Serve as an NCSP Project Pathologist and/or Project Toxicology representative; provide anatomic/clinical pathology and toxicology expertise and collaborate with R&D leaders.
  • Lead pathology contributions to target validation and MoA understanding via integrated pathology, pharmacology, and biomarker interpretation.
  • Provide scientific leadership for fit-for-use qualification of AI/ML pathology tools and digital endpoints, including governance for data quality and model performance.
  • Provide IHC, ISH, and spatial endpoint expertise with iPath/iTox, DMPK, and Drug Discovery Units.
  • Perform and peer-review macroscopic/microscopic primary reads of animal tissues; communicate findings and recommendations via reports and meetings.
  • Author/review regulatory documents (BB, IND, IB, DSUR, BLA, MAA, NDA, JNDA) and respond to health authorities.
  • Represent Takeda in toxicology/pathology meetings and professional committees/consortia.
Education & Qualifications
  • DVM (or equivalent) and Ph.D.
  • Board certification (ACVP/ECVP/JCVP).
  • Proficiency in veterinary anatomic and/or clinical pathology.
  • 10+ years pharmaceutical drug development experience.
  • Experience with alternative modalities (desired): oligonucleotides, antibodies/conjugates, small molecules, alternative routes.
Skills
  • Strong decision-making, data analysis/interpretation, critical thinking.
  • Excellent written/oral communication; leadership and collaboration/mentoring.
  • Working knowledge of digital pathology platforms (Halo-link, Halo, Visopharm, Patholytix, Pristima/Provantis, Benchling ELN) and quantitative image analysis.
  • Track record leading transformational initiatives in digital pathology/computational biology/translational science.
Compensation & Benefits (if applicable)
  • U.S. Base Salary Range (Boston, MA): $177,000.00–$278,080.00.
