Job description

Job Title: Scientific - Coord, Laboratory

Location: Irvine, CA

Duration: 18 Months

Summary

The Laboratory Coordinator primarily supports daily laboratory operations through laboratory glassware washing and preparation, inventory control, supply ordering, and sample handling. Responsibilities include washing, rinsing, drying, inspecting, and organizing laboratory glassware and reusable supplies; operating and cleaning laboratory dishwashers and autoclaves; monitoring inventory levels, performing routine inventory counts, maintaining accurate records, identifying replenishment needs, submitting and tracking supply orders, receiving deliveries, rotating stock, and monitoring expiration dates; and receiving, labeling, logging, staging, storing, distributing, transferring, and disposing of laboratory samples in accordance with established procedures while maintaining sample identification, condition, documentation, and traceability. The Laboratory Coordinator also prepares test supplies, maintains clean and orderly work and storage areas, completes cleaning logs, inventory records, sample records, equipment charts, and other required documentation, and enters routine information into laboratory approved systems. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, basic computer and mathematical skills, attention to detail, effective communication, the ability to read and follow written instructions and standard operating procedures in English, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively while complying with applicable safety and quality requirements. 0-2 years of laboratory, inventory, materials-handling, or related experience is preferred.

The Laboratory Coordinator supports Biology, Chemistry, and Microbiology laboratory operations by monitoring workload, priorities, and staffing needs and providing support across all laboratory areas as needed.

Scope Origin

This position absorbs work currently performed under a third-party services agreement covering stocking, supply management, and glassware washing. That agreement is expiring. This is a consultant replacement rather than a direct backfill of a departing worker, and the incoming coordinator will take full ownership of the scope at handoff. This posting supports the Chemistry laboratory.

Schedule and Location

Onsite, five days per week, 40 hours per week. This assignment is not eligible for remote or hybrid arrangements.

Term Outlook

Initial term is 18 months with a start date of October 1, 2026. Leadership has indicated this is a long-term operational need, and extension is anticipated subject to business need and approval. Extension is not guaranteed at the time of submittal.

Role is fully onsite. There is no remote or hybrid component
