Job summary

Henkel, within the Adhesive Technologies unit in the US, seeks a senior coatings scientist to drive new product development and process optimization. You will lead cross-functional teams across manufacturing, quality, and R&D to deliver compliant, high-performance coatings.

The role requires deep expertise in advanced coatings, surface science, and DOE-driven optimization, with 5 days in office in Massachusetts.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Sciences, Surface Sciences or related field
  • 7–10 years of relevant industry experience
  • Strong knowledge of advanced coating technologies including functional coatings, sol-gel, UV-curable materials, and hybrid coatings
  • Understanding of polymer and surface science, including crosslinking, surface energy, and interfacial interactions
  • Experience formulating and optimizing coating systems including rheology and adhesion
  • Knowledge of nanomaterials and nanoparticle-enabled coatings
  • Proficiency in surface analysis and performance testing
  • Experience with DOE and statistical analysis to support product development
  • Knowledge of material characterization techniques (SEM, AFM, optical microscopy, FTIR, DSC, TGA)
  • Ability to work 5 days in office

What you´ll do
  • Execute new product development projects
  • Develop new approaches, solutions, processes, and products within an agreed timeframe

  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental (SHE), and laboratory standards
  • Provide technical support services to Manufacturing and Quality as required
  • Execute processes and develops solutions to support cross-functional teams in successfully completing new technology product initiatives that align with the organization's strategic objectives
  • Ensureall new products meet international chemical health and safety requirements and other regulations
  • Ensure that Henkel's new IP is protected through collaboration with internal and external partners
  • Provide guidance and recommendations on patents, trademarks and proprietary agreements
  • Conduct and evaluateproduct stability and performance testing
What makes you a good fit
  • Master’s or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Sciences, Surface Sciences or related field
  • 7-10 years of relevant industry experience
  • Strong knowledge of advanced coating technologies, including functional and protective coatings, sol-gel systems, UV-curable materials, and hybrid organic-inorganic coatings
  • Understanding of polymer and surface science, including polymer chemistry, crosslinking mechanisms, surface energy, and interfacial interactions
  • Experience formulating and optimizing coating systems, including rheology, adhesion performance, and substrate preparation
  • Knowledge of nanomaterials and nanoparticle-enabled coating technologies and their impact on material performance
  • Proficiency in surface analysis and performance testing, including contact angle measurement, environmental exposure, and durability testing
  • Experience applying statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE) to support product development and process optimization.
  • Experience with materials characterization techniques, such as SEM, AFM, optical microscopy, FTIR, DSC, and TGA.
  • Ability to work 5 days in office

The salary rangefor this role is $95,000.00 and $110,000.00. This range represents the good‑faith minimumand maximum wages the Company reasonably expects to offer for this role at thetime of posting.In addition to base salary, this position may be eligiblefor incentive pay or other forms of compensation, as applicable. TheCompany also offers a comprehensive benefits package as described above. Actualcompensation will be based on factors such as the candidate’s skills,experience, education, training, and work location.
