Job summary

NOVA's Annandale Campus Laboratory Assistant role provides essential lab and administrative support to the MSTB division. You will help manage materials, inventory, safety compliance, and repair of equipment across biology, chemistry, geology, and physics labs, while handling record keeping and routine office duties.

The position supports instructors, maintains organized labs, and may require evening/weekend hours as needed. A collaborative, detail‑oriented team player is ideal.

Qualifications

• Experience in chemistry and/or preparing science laboratory materials.
• Experience with maintaining chemical and/or equipment inventory.
• Familiarity with basic software programs, including Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Set up science laboratory experiments, may include biology chemistry, physics, and geology labs.
• Oversee all aspects of inventory, including proper repair, surplus, and disposal when necessary.
• Keeping labs clean and organized.
• Work collaboratively with other laboratory staff.
• Performs routine office support activities.
• Applies knowledge of basic office practices, procedures and equipment (customer service, telephone computer, copier).
• Cooperates with and assists instructors with location and storage of laboratory materials.
• Performs routine maintenance and repair of equipment.
• All items are returned to proper storage areas when no longer in use.
• Lists of required materials are given to the person in charge of ordering.
• Work some evenings and weekends.
