Job summary

Harvard H. Ellis Technical High School in Killingly, CT is seeking an experienced Science Instructor (Biology/Chemistry) to join our team. You will design and implement purposeful lessons aligned with curriculum standards, using differentiated strategies to support all learners.

At the State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) we are recruiting for a Science Instructor (Biology/Chemistry) to join our team at Harvard H. Ellis Technical High School in Killingly, CT.

The ideal candidate will bring strong content knowledge, effective instructional practices, and a passion for helping students succeed in both individual and collaborative learning environments.

As a Science Instructor, you will design and implement purposeful lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards and instructional goals, utilizing differentiated strategies and varied assessment methods to support all learners.

You will cultivate a positive classroom culture that promotes respect, intellectual engagement, and active participation while effectively managing classroom procedures and student behavior.

Collaboration is an essential component of this position, as you will work closely with guidance staff, special education personnel, and support service educators to ensure accommodations and individualized supports are successfully implemented.

In addition to classroom instruction, this role requires a commitment to professional growth, reflective teaching practices, and ongoing communication with students and families. The successful candidate will actively participate in professional learning communities, uphold the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality, and support the mission, policies, and values of the district while helping to maintain a safe, ethical, and student-centered school environment.

To be considered for this position, Science Instructors (Biology/Chemistry) must possess an active State of Connecticut teaching certificate in one of the following areas:

  • 030 Biology, 4-12 or 031 Chemistry, 4-12 or 032 Physics, 4-12 or 034 General Science, 4-12
  • OR be Eligible for a State of Connecticut Teaching Certificate in subject area (Includes ARC candidates).
  • OR qualify for a Durational Shortage Area Permit (DSAP)
Position Highlights
  • Schedule: first shift, full time (35 hours per week) Monday through Friday.
  • Location: Harvard H. Ellis Technical High School, in Killingly, CT.
  • Salary: VS01-VS02, derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers.
  • Academic Calendar: CTECS follows a ten-month academic calendar (188 days per year.)

CTECS operates 17 diploma-granting technical high schools, one technical education center and two airframe mechanics and aircraft maintenance programs. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Engage in intentional planning to prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, use appropriate techniques, and serve the needs of all learners in the classroom through differentiation
  • Knowledge of Science content and pedagogy in content-specific high school Science curricula
  • Understand the varied needs of each student
  • Work collaboratively with guidance personnel and other support service educators to assist students with special programming; ensure IEP and 504 accommodations/modifications are implemented
  • Set instructional goals and outcomes
  • Knowledge and use of varied instructional practices and resources
  • Effectively design instructional learning opportunities
  • Effectively design assessments

  • Reflect on teaching practices
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Maintain effective and on-going communication with students and their families
  • Participate in building and district level professional development and collaboration. This will include working with various committees and departments to facilitate educating students

  • Implement the CTECS Board of Education and administrative policies, rules, regulations, and directives

  • Report all cases of suspected child abuse to appropriate school personnel and authorities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Well versed in high school science curricula.
  • Professional experiences related to the field of teaching Science.
  • Experience with varied assessments to inform instruction and promote learning.
  • Experience with fostering and facilitating learning, classroom management, and behavior intervention plans.
  • Experience delivering ideas and objectives through oral and written communication
  • Experience utilizing computer software such as Microsoft Office and Google Products.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents must possess at time of appointment a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education in accordance with the Certification Regulations Concerning State Educator Certificates, Permits and Authorizations, with a secondary school endorsement.
