Job summary

VA San Diego Healthcare System is seeking a Spinal Cord Injury LVN to join the Inpatient Nursing Services team. The LVN will work under RN supervision, delivering comprehensive nursing care to SCI patients in the outpatient SCI Urology Clinic.

The role requires current LPN/LVN licensure, English proficiency, and experience with nursing care and medications. The schedule is 0730–1600 with opportunities for professional growth and teamwork within a multidisciplinary setting.

Qualifications

• English language proficiency is required and a basic ability to communicate in writing and speaking.
• Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the state agency or NLNAC-accredited at program completion.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications and treatments to SCI patients.
• Obtain/collect specimens as ordered.
• Perform bedside Point of Care testing and wound care.
• Provide direct patient care and support in the SCI outpatient clinic.
• Document actions in the electronic medical record.
• Recognize changes in patient condition and intervene as directed.
• Mentor less experienced staff and act as a preceptor where needed.
• Assist with patient education and discharge planning.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary care team to optimize outcomes.
• Maintain patient privacy and dignity in all interactions.
• Support routine and urgent nursing duties in outpatient SCI/Urology settings.
• Participate in performance improvements and educational opportunities.
