This Lieutenant vacancy serves Troop 6 Headquarters.
Performs responsible management, law enforcement, and administrative duties in assigned Highway Patrol Troop under the direction of the Troop Commander. Assumes the duties of the Troop Commander in his/her absence as directed. Assists the Troop Commander in maintaining operational readiness of personnel, facilities, and equipment.
Assists the Troop Commander with the supervision and management of law enforcement programs and activities for assigned Troop. Assists with planning, coordinating, and implementation of all law enforcement operations and other related duties as required.
Monitors the enforcement of S.C. motor vehicle and criminal laws in assigned jurisdiction. Analyzes investigative and enforcement data, prepares cases, preserves evidence, and presents cases in court for prosecution. Serves as a collision investigation specialist and expert witness in trial cases. Supervises the Troop’s field training program and background investigations of patrol applicants. Investigates internal complaints and public inquiries impartially.
Disseminates information effectively to subordinates and through the chain of command. Provides guidance on laws governing vehicle and pedestrian traffic; reviews case work; and ensures duties are performed in accordance with policies, laws, and regulations. Evaluates employee performance and facilitates training participation.
Prepares internal memorandums, reports, and correspondence. Reviews and approves payroll and personnel documents for processing through SCDPS Headquarters.
Maintains S.C. law enforcement certification. Performs law enforcement functions for civil defense, emergency preparedness, and public protection. Coordinates responses to civil disturbances and disasters, and manages traffic and crowd control at major events.
Establishes partnerships with law enforcement, court officials, and safety organizations. Assists in designing traffic safety initiatives and community outreach. Participates in public safety education and monitors information dissemination to officials, the public, and media. Performs other duties as directed.
Additional requirements include management, supervision, and planning experience, Class I law enforcement certification, leadership abilities, and traffic law expertise. Overnight travel may be required for special assignments or incidents.
