Internal Posting for SCHP Officers - Lieutenant Position

This vacancy is exclusively for current SCHP officers.

Position Overview: This Lieutenant role serves Troop 6 Headquarters, involving management, law enforcement, and administrative duties under the Troop Commander. The incumbent will assume the Troop Commander's duties in their absence and assist in maintaining operational readiness.

  1. Supervise and manage law enforcement programs and activities within the Troop.
  2. Plan, coordinate, and implement law enforcement operations.
  3. Monitor enforcement of motor vehicle and criminal laws; analyze data; prepare cases; serve as collision investigation specialist and expert witness.
  4. Supervise field training and background investigations of patrol applicants.
  5. Investigate internal and public complaints impartially.
  6. Disseminate information effectively; provide guidance on traffic laws; evaluate employee performance; facilitate training participation.
  7. Prepare reports, memorandums, and correspondence; review payroll and personnel documents.
  8. Maintain law enforcement certification; perform functions related to civil defense and emergency preparedness.
  9. Coordinate with law enforcement agencies and community organizations; participate in public safety education and outreach.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Time in Grade: Must have held SCHP Sergeant rank for at least 6 months or be a First Sergeant.
  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; 5 years law enforcement experience.
  • Promotional Evaluation: Score 70+ on Promotion Exam within 2 years; complete Promotional Interview Panel within 2 years.
  • Disciplinary Status: No current suspensions or pending investigations; no recent involuntary demotions or unsuccessful EPMS ratings.
  • Residency: Must establish residence within the Troop area within 4 months, per policy.
  • Additional Qualifications: Management, supervision, planning experience; Class I law enforcement certification; leadership abilities; in-depth traffic law knowledge.
  • Must be able to make critical decisions under limited supervision; overnight travel may be required.
