Job summary

Williamsburg James City School District is seeking a Specialty Driver to operate a school division vehicle (non-bus) and transport students and authorized personnel safely and efficiently on assigned routes.

The role requires vigilance, communication with coordinators, and adherence to transportation policies. Office-based supervision and the building-based work site support student safety and timely operations.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Possession of a valid Virginia Driver's License with a good driving record.
Must be at least 21 years old and provide 5-year driving history.
Ability to communicate clearly and operate non-school-bus vehicles in various conditions.
Excellent communication skills to interact with students, parents, and staff.
Must lift up to 50 pounds and be able to sit for long periods.

Responsibilities

Transports minimal number of students to and from local and out-of-zone schools.
Enforces rules and reports discipline issues to principals and transportation coordinator.
Inspects vehicle systems and reports malfunctions.
Presents neat, courteous appearance to parents, students and staff.
Performs required safety trainings and CPR courses.
Cares for shuttle runs as needed and assists students with special needs.
