Responsibilities

• Performs casework with individual students to address personal, social and/or emotional maladjustments affecting educational progress.
• Collaborates with parents/guardians to improve involvement and access to resources.
• Works with school personnel to plan for addressing student behavior as part of teams (PPT, Early Intervention Process, Crisis Response, PBIS).
• Liaises with outside agencies and community services; refers students as needed.
• Makes home visits to gather information on student background.
• Acts as liaison between home and school for follow-up in cases such as DCF or foster placements.
• Assists students to improve adjustment to school.
• Demonstrates knowledge of theory and practice in the discipline.
• Assesses student needs and monitors progress.
• Plans and implements programs and interventions to meet objectives.
• Facilitates development of independence and self-concept.
• Communicates with students, families, staff and community.
• Supports classroom teachers through consultation and direct presentations.
• Encourages parental and community involvement in education.
• Meets professional responsibilities and duties.
