Job summary

New Paradigm for Education in Detroit, MI seeks a qualified School Social Worker to support students through social-emotional programs and counseling. You will collaborate with teachers, families, and administrators to address behavioral and emotional needs, promoting student well-being and success.

Requirements include a Master’s in Social Work and a valid School Social Work Certificate, with preference for crisis intervention experience and a growth-oriented, collaborative approach to student

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in social work.
• Valid School Social Work Certificate required.
• Experience with school-age children in classroom settings.
• Experience with diverse communities and strong relationship-building skills.
• Background in crisis intervention, counseling, or related fields preferred.
• Growth mindset and collaborative approach to student support.

Responsibilities

• Proactively develop social-emotional educational programs to meet student needs.
• Provide counseling sessions, treatment plans, or workshops as necessary and establish prevention/intervention plans.
• Communicate with students and parents to identify areas needing assistance or counseling.
• Assist teachers and staff with behavioral issues by understanding underlying distress causes.
• Provide information to outside support services to help students with economic, emotional, or physical issues.
• Maintain case files and progress reports for all support services.
