Job summary

New Paradigm for Education (NPFE) in Detroit, MI is seeking a School Social Worker to support student well-being and family engagement within a multidisciplinary team.

Required: Master’s degree in social work and a valid School Social Work Certificate; experience with diverse communities and crisis intervention preferred. Salary ranges from $50,000 to $75,000 annually with a signing bonus for certified candidates.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Proactively develop social-emotional educational programs to meet student needs.
• Provide counseling sessions, treatment plans, or workshops and establish prevention/intervention plans.
• Communicate with students and parents to identify areas needing support or counseling.
• Assist teachers and staff with behavioral and academic planning for distressed students.
• Share information with outside services to address economic, emotional, or physical challenges.
• Support at-risk students or students with disabilities; maintain progress records for services.

Job Requirements

• Master’s degree or above in social work
• Must have a valid School Social Work Certificate
• Prior classroom experience working with school‑age children
• Experience using culturally affirming practices, working with diverse communities, and strong relationship‑building skills to understand students, families, and communities.
• Background in crisis intervention, conflict resolution, charter education, or counseling preferred
• A growth mindset and collaborative approach to meeting students needs

Duties & Responsibilities

Support and Services

• Proactively develop social‑emotional educational programs to meet student needs.
• Providing counseling sessions, treatment plans, or workshops as necessary and establishing prevention programs and intervention plans.
• Communicating with students and parents to determine the areas in which they may need assistance or counseling.
• Assisting teachers and school staff with behavioral and attitude issues by communicating with students to find the causes of their distress.
• Providing information, when appropriate, to outside support services to help students with economic, emotional, or physical issues.
• Assisting at‑risk students or students with disabilities.
• Communicating with parents, teachers, and administrators to understand students' challenges.
• Maintaining case files and reports to track students' progress and problems.
• Helping students and families connect to resources to address various needs.
• Maintain progress records for all support services provided by the school.
