Job summary

The Children's Aid Society is seeking a Social Worker to join the Youth Division team at PS 8 in New York City. You will implement mental health services in collaboration with PS 8, primarily supporting elementary students and families to address chronic absenteeism and promote wellbeing.

Responsibilities include group and individual counseling, coordinating with school staff, documenting case work in the web-based system, and participating in supervision and team meetings.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Social Work and New York State Licensure (LMSW) required. Hours toward LCSW provided.
• Experience in working with elementary school children.
• Group Work experience preferred.
• The ability to quickly assess situations and develop interventions.
• A high level of interpersonal skill is required to interact with stakeholders, students and colleagues during periods of emotional stress.
• Flexibility to use clinical skills outside of a traditional clinical setting.
• Bilingual Spanish/English is required.

Responsibilities

• Group Work - Conduct psycho-educational groups to build coping skills, self-esteem, reduce isolation, and remove obstacles to learning.
• Clinical Social Work - Provide individual, group, and family counseling, crisis intervention, conflict mediation, assessment and referral services.
• Collaboration - Work with school staff and inter-disciplinary teams to support all systems within the school.
• Maintain documentation on the web-based information system, including treatment plans and psychosocial assessments.
• Participate in weekly clinical supervision, site supervision, team meetings, and mental health in-service activities.
